Congratulations to the Chapman’s!

“Today you both are doing a very noble thing by making a lifelong promise of fidelity to one another before God and witnesses.  A promise of this kind may bring about fear; it is true in any vocation… But why fear? With Christ the wine of Charity never runs out.”  – Fr. Greg Ihm

Faith, friends, and fun.  For many, many years, these three words have been used to describe Summer Camp at Camp Gray.  For many, many years to come, these three words will be used to describe the wedding of longtime Camp Gray staff members Tim Chapman and Lauren Cunningham.

This past weekend Tim and Lauren, surrounded by their families and a plethora of the Camp Gray family, were married in Lawrence, KS at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church on the campus of the University of Kansas.  Fittingly, Fr. Greg Ihm, Chaplain of Camp Gray during the summer of 2010, and current Parochial Vicar at St. John the Baptist Parish in Waunakee, con-celebrated the Wedding Mass and delivered the homily.  Beautifully, he spoke of the love exemplified by God when He emptied himself, took the form of a servant, and was born in the likeness of man.  He continued, “This image of emptying oneself out of love for the other is a standard that each of you will be called to exercise time and time again. It is in this emptying that you will be conformed to Christ the servant.  As Camp Gray staff you have taught many kids what it means to be a servant. Now you will live it for one another and those to whom God calls you to serve.”

An abundance of Camp Gray staff members at a wedding reception means one thing: Dancing went late into the night!

No doubt, Tim and Lauren – staples of Camp Gray since 2005 & 2007, respectively – have been great examples of servants in their time at Camp Gray. We’ll certainly miss their servant hearts around these parts, but we couldn’t be happier with the life they’re beginning together. In addition, we, the Camp Gray staff, are always thrilled when members of the Camp Gray family marry, for there is no better wedding reception dance than one with 30-40 former and current Camp Gray staff members in attendance! As the saying goes; Camp Gray staff – we pray hard and then we play hard!  Congratulations to Tim and Lauren Chapman!
