Is it spring at Camp Gray already? This is a scene typically reserved for April, not mid-December!

Even though there’s hardly even a dusting of snow on the ground at Camp Gray right now, Christmas is still just around the corner (it only feels like its early spring…). Every year, as Christmas fast approaches, memories of Christmases gone by seem to rush to the forefront of my mind. Memories of waking up Mom & Dad at 4:30am on Christmas day to open presents are rich, as well as the traditional Christmas Eve we’re-having-a-hard-time-falling-asleep-because-we’re-so-excited-about-Christmas-quote my brother would say, “The faster we get to sleep, the faster it’ll be Christmas!” In addition, I always love it when the Pavilion at Camp Gray gets decorated with a Christmas tree and lights and all of the staff and campers break into singing random Christmas songs during meals – oh wait, that’s Christmas in July!  Regardless, I love it! Also, one of my favorite Christmas pastimes is the giving and receiving of gifts, and how the saying, “Great things come in small packages,” seems to always ring true.

Great things come in small packages. This especially rings true this Christmas as Camp Gray has wrapped up a “mini” gift that will no doubt leave you and your campers smiling.

We’ve said it before, but I’ll continue to say it so as to really stress it; we absolutely love your feedback. We have made and continue to make significant changes and improvements due to your feedback (spoiler alert: a new summer camp schedule is in the works which gives campers an opportunity to experience more than just two program areas during a week – per dozens upon dozens of your requests! Check back soon to read all about it!) Along those same lines, we’ve been hearing from many of our returning camp families, as well as many prospective camp families, that a “mini camp” experience would be a very appealing summer camp option. While for many years now, we’ve offered a “short week” to compliment the long weekend of the 4th of July (and will be offering that again in 2012), you wanted something shorter (and less expensive) for first time campers. With that in mind, we’re excited to offer “Mini Camp.” Mini Camp was created with younger, first-time campers in mind. This three day, two night opportunity will give first-time campers an opportunity to experience Camp Gray without being away from home for too long!  There are still spots remaining in this program, but we’re excited to fill it up soon. (Still looking for last minute Christmas gifts for a young camper-to-be?!)

As Christmas fast approaches, all of us here would like to wish you a very Merry and Blessed Christmas! And remember, great things come in small packages!

Peace!
