We couldn’t do it without them.
Our volunteer Servant Leadership Team members are an integral part of the mission at Camp Gray. They run our facilitated programs during the school year including confirmation retreats and Environmental Stewardship, they write the weekly email devotions, they assist us in the office with camp administration, and help us develop new programs. We are in their debt. Below are pictures and short bios of our volunteer staff for the 2011-2012 season.

Anybody can throw a tight spiral from the ground... Emilio can make it rain even from the top of the Panda Ball Pit.
Emilio Baltazar Alvarez
Emilio originally hails from Aurora, IL, and is a recent graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, IA. “Meals” has been around camp for several summers, so he knows this place like the back of his hand. When he isn’t changing the lives of countless campers and retreatants at Camp Gray, he loves to watch and play sports, cherishes time spent outdoors, and has a passion for his faith and for building community. If you’re in the area, stop by and challenge Meals to a board game – be forewarned, he excels at them – or just enjoy some of his fine cooking.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.’”
- John 10:10
Colleen Dunn
Colleen, a native of the Empire State, is a recent graduate of Marywood University in Scranton, PA. She earned a degree in Religious Studies, which will certainly come in handy this year serving at Camp Gray. Colleen enjoys tossing the fris, watching movies, and sipping on iced coffee. A couple of fun facts about Colleen are: 1) She traveled to Australia for WYD in 2008, and loved every minute of it! 2) She is the youngest of 4 (she has two sisters and one brother).
“Be living witnesses of the greatness and beauty of Christianity.”
- St. Gianna
Nathan Heit
Nathan comes to us all the way from Cottage Grove, WI. Nathan and his family have a long history with Camp Gray, and Nathan is joining us having just recently finished six years of service to the United States Army. When Nathan isn’t pitching in here at Camp Gray (or whooping folks in ping-pong), he loves to hunt and fish, and he is passionate about rooting on that moderately successful professional football team from Green Bay.
“Don’t give orders that can be understood. Give orders than cannot be misunderstood.”
- Generals
Darleen Kittrick
Darleen, also a graduate of Marywood University in Scranton, PA, is from Mountain Top, PA. When Darleen isn’t touching up on her Religious Studies/Social Work degrees, she LOVES to snowboard and bike. Between rides – whether on the bike or the board – Darleen refuels with a heavy intake of veggies, which happen to be her absolute favorite food. It shouldn’t take Darleen any time at all to get acclimated to living in community, as she’s one of six kids Catholic.
“It’s just what I do, I think it’s what I was built to do. It’s fun and I’m glad and I feel fortunate to have found a calling like this, something that I’m good at. I definitely can’t imagine my life without… the sport.”
- Shawn White
Doug Ulaszek
Doug is a Religious Studies graduate from the Iowa State University (Go Cyc’s!). Doug hails originally from the greater Chicago area, which explains his passion for all things Chicago Sports (especially the Cubbies). When Doug isn’t brushing up on his knowledge of Theology of the Body (you’re looking at the next Christopher West here…), Doug loves playing football, softball, basketball, and table tennis.
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
- Mahatma Ghandi
